Suryakumar Yadav, the No.1 ranked T20I batter, is set to feature for the Mumbai Indians very soon in IPL 2024. According to reports, he has been cleared by the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and will join the team on Friday, April 5.
Recovering from Injuries
Suryakumar last played competitive cricket in December 2023, when he scored a century against South Africa. However, during that series, he suffered a grade 2 tear of his ankle, requiring surgery. Additionally, Suryakumar underwent an operation for a sports hernia, further delaying his return as he continued his rehabilitation at the NCA facility in Bengaluru.
Rejoining the Squad
The 33-year-old will link up with the Mumbai Indians squad during their practice session at the Wankhede Stadium as they prepare for their next home game against Delhi Capitals on April 7. The team management will assess his fitness during the net session and make a decision regarding his participation.
Struggling Start for Mumbai Indians
Mumbai Indians have endured a challenging start to their IPL 2024 campaign under new captain Hardik Pandya, losing their first three matches. After defeats against Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad at home, they also succumbed to Rajasthan Royals in their most recent home fixture.
Suryakumar’s Timely Return
Suryakumar Yadav’s return to the Mumbai Indians squad comes at a crucial juncture, as the team aims to turn their fortunes around. His presence is expected to provide a significant boost to the batting lineup, given his exceptional form and ability to single-handedly change the complexion of a match.
As Mumbai Indians seek to revive their IPL 2024 campaign, the arrival of Suryakumar Yadav could prove to be the catalyst they desperately need, injecting renewed confidence and firepower into their struggling side.
