England have received a significant boost with the inclusions of Jofra Archer and Chris Jordan in their 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup. Archer, who last played for England during the Bangladesh tour in 2023, has recovered from a persistent elbow issue and is set to add firepower to the pace attack. Meanwhile, Jordan, who hasn’t played a T20I since September 2023, will bring his vast experience and versatility to the English bowling unit.
Hartley Earns Maiden Call-Up
Left-arm spinner Tom Hartley, who impressed during the Test tour of India, is the only uncapped player in the squad. His selection comes at the expense of Rehan Ahmed, and he will be joined by Will Jacks as the two players without prior World Cup experience.
Familiar Faces and Notable Absentees
The squad features familiar names like Jos Buttler (captain), Moeen Ali, Jonathan Bairstow, Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Ben Duckett, Liam Livingstone, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Reece Topley, and Mark Wood. However, there is no place for Chris Woakes, Dawid Malan, and Ben Stokes, who asked not to be considered for the T20 World Cup.
The same squad will also take on Pakistan in a four-match T20I series at home, with the first match scheduled for May 22. The eight members of the squad currently playing in the IPL are expected to return for the beginning of that series, missing the IPL playoffs.
England will begin their World Cup campaign against Scotland in Barbados on June 4, after flying to the Caribbean on May 31.
